Editorial Methodology
How every entry gets written.
The Finance & Accounting Dictionary follows the same process for every term, so the depth and quality don't depend on which letter you're looking under.
Plain English first
Every entry starts as a plain-English explanation of what the term means and why it matters, aimed at someone with no finance background. The formal, technical definition is added alongside it, not in place of it.
Checked against real usage
Definitions are checked against how the term is actually used in accounting, finance, and business practice - not just a dictionary definition in isolation - so the explanation matches what a business owner will actually run into.
Reviewed before publishing
Each entry is reviewed for accuracy before it goes live, including the worked examples and any related terms it links to.
Revised over time
Terminology, standards, and common usage change. Entries are revisited and updated as needed rather than left untouched once published.
